THE WEEK'S SHARE BUSINESS.
Hongkong, October 24th. The total amount of share business transacted during the past week has been unusually small, and but for numbers of forced sales to meet the monthly settlements hardly anything would have been done. An all-round depreciation has taken place, and the market closed decidedly shaky.
Hongkong and Shanghai Bank scrip has steadily declined since our last report. shares having been sold at as low as 156 per cent. premfum for cash; business was also done at 160 for the December settlements. To-day the stock appears to be a trifle firmer, and there are cash buyers at 158. No transfers have been reported In the National Bank of China's shares; there have been frequent inquiries for Founders' at 8225 and ordinary scrip st 55 per cent. discount, but no shares are on the market at these rates. The scrip of
the Bank of China, Japan and the Straits continues weak; sales have been made at 14 for December, and there are cath sellers at the same rate, Founders' shares are at present neglected at £135.
No business has been reported either in Marineor Fire Insurance stocks, and rates are purely nominal.

In Steamboats a fair businem, consider- ing the dull times, has been put through at rates varying from 34.to 351 for cash, and also at 36 for December. There are now cash buyers at 35. A few Indo-China have been placed at 273 per cent, discount, but there are further sellers. Other shipping stocks are unsteady at annexed quotations. As we indicated some time since would probably be the case, Docks have failed to maintain their position, and are now weak at 76 par cent, premium. During the ¦ week business has been done at from O 73 to 75 for cash, 81 for December and 85 for next April. The decline in Docks is generally attributed to a falling off in profitable work at the Com-N pany's establishments, and doubtless this bellef may have exercised a certain amount of influence on the market status of the stock; but probably the extreme financial pressure in addition to settlement arrange- ments have had a deal to do with the Fenwick & present position of affairs. Co.'s shares have been done at as high as 15 for cash, but there further sellers on these terms.
