Chemulpo, rrth October, There is another well known land and house- owner about to follow the example set by Mr. 1. Steinbeck, in selling bis property and leaving for home. His lots, situated in the best business part of the town, are sure to fetch a good sum, He is one of the lucky pioneers who dropped in at the opening of the port, and had a chance to bay up some of the best lots at nominal prices, and at the present value of the same ground ho can afford to sell and take things easy.
One thing is certain, that the high mandarios can keep order bere, and as long as they set no reason in the action of Peking to alter, they will keep the peace for us. The shadow of a wink from the capital would change all this.

The Russian Minister to China passed through this port the other day, after a prolonged stay at Kobe, where, it seems, he made some private enquiries about the attempted assassination of the Czarewitch. The Japanese, I hear, are very Indignant at Prince George of Greece claiming to have saved his cousin's life, although he states himself, in the letter to his father, the King of the Hellenes, that his Jinricksha was 30 yards behind that of the Russian Prince, while everybody knows that the two jlaricksha coolles, oue drawing and one push. ing the vehicle, can only have been one yard each distant from the young Prince, when he was assailed. Almost all Japanere are good wrestlers, and the majority of them are plucky fellows; so, when the would-be assassin, who is dead now, made his mad attempt, the hindmost coolic rushed at and threw him, while his comrade deprived him of bls sword, and slashed at him, possibly settled the madman by a final blow with by which time the Greek Prince came up, and his cane, across the head. Prince George of Greece is reported to be, like his relative, the Czar, of Herculean bodily strength. Of the latter It is told that, on one occasion, after losing a game of whist or two, he smilingly took the whole pack of cards, saying “well, you have done me this time; but can you do this after which he tore the whole pack in two.
Another river steamer, the Ziun-san, anived from Japan, to supply a long felt want, and vie public. She is Japanese. That is another leather in the cap of Dal Nippon, the so-called suzerain power of the Dragon dag having per- mitted itself once more to be out-done by Japanese enterprise. China is almost entirely taking a back seat in Korea; being so utterly helpless at home, why should she make futile false pretences to suzerainty in this country, or in fact anywhere else? Why should she pre- tend to protect Kores, if she is unable to protect foreign women and chlidren and property in ber own country?

I dreamt last night that I was in pursuit of Remedios and thought I saw Diogenes with lamp in his hand plodding forth on his eccentric quest and that I was riding Dick Turpin's Black Bess with a big placard in my hands offer- ing a reward for the discovery of Remedios. Then felt as if it was twilight and the moon rising above the horizon, which appeared very near to me. A horse came down from the moon and stood close to me. They told he was Abatos, Pluto's home, and that if I mounted him he would take me to Remedios, who was up in-the moon. I mounted the steed and just as we were approaching the moon I woke up with a start. It was broad daylight, and a servant handed me n letter from my cachuca fairy. It was an lavi- tation to an evening party.

The steamer Yehrle is calling here now pretty regularly, and I believe is doing fairly well's certainly better, I have reason to believe, than when the China Merchants' flag merely made Its appearance now and then at irregular intervals. But what we and our fellow sufferers in Soul are growing about is that the Yeksin never binge any mails from Shanghaf. It is not the fault of the amiable gentlemen on credibly informed that it is also not the fault board, that I know for certain, and I am

The Commodore of our Royal Korean feet, Captain B. Petersen, is about to go home, on a year's leave of absence, while others have it that he is to bring out a new steamer for the Korean Government. At all events, we all hope he will be soon out again; there is certainly no greater favourite with everybody in our coast ports than Captain Petersen, who is always attentive to business; and ever obliging to all who needed his advice, his help, or assistance. He commanded the steamer Hairfong nearly five years, and must be highly congratulated for never experiencing any serious mishap, although he has been going in and out constantly, not only in our Treaty Ports, but every other place along our extensive coasts, where he has been engaged, both as chief officer of other steamers, and captain of the Hairlong, ever since 1884. His chief officer, Mr. Bruhn, is to succeed to his command.

Friday, 3rd April, 1852. I enjoyed myself immensely at the cachuca, fairy's last night; they offered me drinks and I drank every one's health, but I don't remember that I saw Remedios. Before dinner I w Balf-seas over-the family insisted on their guests drinking, and belog afraid to kill myself with the nondescript Tytam water, I always took care to mix something with it "to kill the animalcule" I am always very careful about that, On taking my leave of the family, my tutoress requested me to send up to her the next day a certain bltd-seller, as she wanted to buy canary.
