Heron got the beat of the start and made the running with Vindicator second and St. Mark third, Heron held a good lead along the back straight and the order was unchanged at the Monument at which Vindicator and St. Mark were close up to the leader. In the straight Hornet joined the other three, and a fine race ended in favour of St. Mark by a quarter of a length from Vindicator; Hornet, hard tikien, was a good third, Heron fourth, Matador ifth, Surefoot sixth and Ventilator last-Time, am.

Mr. Crosthwaite o Kingcraft made the running for the first round, closely followed by Matador, with Laskan, Venture, and Careless, next in order, Careless having lost a good deal of ground by swerving at the first burdles, On taking the Loong-fel jump for the second time, Kingcraft fell, and Matador went on with a long lead of Lusban, Venture third, these three now having the race to themselves. At the last jump Matador was still first, a length in front of Lushan, but both were tiring rapidly, and Venture, brought along with a splendid rush in the last forty yards, got up just in time and won by half a length; Lushan was a good third, and Kingcraft finished' fourth. Careless threw his rider at the wall and came in with.Kingcraft.

Monument, with Golden Cloud seci.d.. Here Guarantee was still leading at the bend for the Pit-a-pat began to draw up fast, and, coming ahead in fine style, led by a length into the straight.
