In former years, when heavily Liqueurod Champagnes were alone obtainable, a good freezing was necessary to hide the nsuous sectucas of a ten per cent. dose of sugar-candy and alcohol; but consumers now demand a wine free from unnatural sweetness or alcoholma sparkling vintage which can be taken freely at luncheon or dinner, and which will Improve, rather than destroy, the appetite.

Mr. Hart-Bucy Heavy belting between Hame Guard and Surewind at odds of two to one on the former. As soon as the flag fell Susewing rushed off at score and came down the straight with a com manding lead of the grey, the other pair being outpaced from the start, Sasewind covered his first quarter in 293 seconds, the half-mile fa 59 and the three-quarters in 1.32, and as he was still going well and Mr. Pead was hard at work on Home Guard, matters looked serious for the favorite. Approaching the Rock, however, the dun palpably tired, and 8 Home Guild stunted game length at the terms at the village fèd half quarter-mile post-time for the mile a mio. 6145th secs. A stubborn struggle ensued down the straight, Sescwind running with unexpected gameness, but at the mile post Home Guard had the race in hand and drew clear away, at, one time leading by three langths. Fifty yards from the winning post Mr. Pond eased Home Guard and patted the pony's neck, when Mr. Maclean, seeing his opportunity, came with a tremendous rush and catching the leader at every atzide, only missed the verdict by a short bead, which was the other way a stride past the post.. Duacraggan was a bad third, Times- 19k, 59ł. 1.31, 2.6 1-5th, and a min. 40 secs. Senator led for a few strides half-way down, but at the Grand Stand Arabic was once more in command, and raced around the bend and up the back straight, doggedly hunted by the game chesnut.
