ST. PAUL, December 17th. The story of a terrible tragedy comes from Shakope, Mina,, where an axe, a hatchet and a dose of mornhine were the means of taking three lives. Precisely when the awful deed was committed nobody knows. It occurred at the house of John Spearman. The continued absence from school of little George Russell, a grandson of Mr. Spearman, caused suspicion in the neigh borhood, and Mrs. Griffin, living half a block away, seeing no signs of life about the place, sent her little boy to investigate. The boy look:d in at an open window and fell in a faint at the sight of blood.
The doctors have all declared that the Grand Duke's mind has completely gone, without any passibility of recovery, and that his death from the effects of cancer, with which he is afflicted, must necessarily occur at a very early date. The court of inquiry on the loss of the British cruiser Serpent decided that the loss of the vessel was due to an error of judgment of the navigation officer..
A crowd soon gathered. The doors were closed, but unlocked, and inside were found three corpses. Mrs. Spearman lay in the front room, her hands clutching some mals and a terrible cul in her head, the scalp being partly torn off and the floor stained with blood.
