Mr. Michael Daviti maintains in the Labor World that Ireland is passing through the grbatosi priais kuowa ia bar history during the past 20 years. The questions be firma, la whether the Irish party shall cling to a con- demned leader or throw over Mr Parnell la ...order to cure the result of Ireland's self-

sacrifices.

Mr. J. Dillon, M.P, wiring from America,

npholds the action taken by Mr. Gladstone and denounces Mr. Parnell. He says that the great victories achieved by the Irish party during the past decade are now sullled.

Mr. C. S. Painell is about to issue a manifesto to the Irish party. Ha avers that the action taken with a view of ousting him from the leadership is a conspiracy on the part of the Liberals and to avenge the voting for Royal grants He denies that bla retention of the leadership would involve the retirement of Mr. Gladstone from active political Ilfa.

It is now stated that a majority of the Irish members of the House of Commons are favorable to Mr. Parnell's relirment,

Mr. Thomas Sexton; M:P. for Belfast West, and other frish members of Parliament have expressed their intention of resigning their seals if Mr. Parnell's retention of the leadership is upheld.

A sensational attempt to commit suicide by a young married woman named Fauny Gardiner, 21 years of age, carne under the notice of the South Richmond police, court on Saturday. About two or three months since the woman's husband left her, and since then she has given way to drink. Shortly after 1 o'clock on Satur. day morning she rushed in a distracted manner to the bridge over the Yarra at Church-street and endeavored to jump from it into the river. Two men who were crossing the bridge at the time grasped the unfortunate woman's dress and thus prevented her from carrying out her laten. tion. The men left the bridge after vainly endeavoring to persuade Gardiner to go with them. She, however, promised that she would not again attempt to take her life. Constable Ballard was informed of the affair and made his way to the bridge, but just as he got there he saw the woman suddenly spring over. Instead of falling into the Yarra she fell with great force on to the bank, a distance of soft, and mira- culously escaped death, a broken arm and bruises being all the injuries sustained.
