Bogran has been regarded as a tool of Barillas, and has successfully bankrupted the country. Many people residing to the frontier districts have signified their intention of asking annexa- tion to Nicaragua and Salvader. If Begran fails there is a possibility that the country will, by common consent of the masses, ba divided between Guatemala, Salvador and Nicaragua.

Presidents Sacaza and Exeta have increaved their frontier garrisons in consequence of the revolt, and have instructed their commanders not to allow dhy.armed force to gather for the purpose of invading Honduras. They will mafatale strict neutrality in the present interna- tional strife,

LONDON, November 11th,

Dr. Nansen, who crossed Greenland a couple of years ago has been writing further details of his plans for reaching the north pole, which he will start to carry out in the spring of 1891. He eve he expects to be able to pass through Behring Straits in June, but ho anticipates local difficulty in getting his small vessel as far west as the New Siberian islands. He belleves that August or the beginning of September will be the most favorable time for pushing north.

He intends to use a small captive baloon, In which he can ascend 100 feet or so, for the purpose of studying the condition of things for a large distance around him. He hopes to get into loose ice and make the journey rapidly at least as far north as Bennett island. When he reachers a permanent ice cap he will simply look for the best place to enter it and will then wait for the Ice to carry him whither it will

He thinks the chances are good that he will be carried across the pole, or very neat it, and Into the sea between Spitzbergen and Greenland. If it is summer when he arrives there he thinks he will probably get into open water near latitude Bo degrees north. If it is winter, how- ever, he is likely to drift south along the east coast of Greenland and come out somewhere the following summer. If the few floes crash his ships Dr. Nansen thinks there is still a excellent chance that he will get through all right. His party in that event will live on the ice flae instead of in a cabin on shipboard.

They will have warm tents of double thick ness of canvas or similar stuff, well filled with reindeer hair. Such tents wi'l be very warza and also

very light.
