country competitions, and in fact every pastime the Members would wish, even to the peaceful game of quoits, This scheme has been formulated some time in his mind, but he waited until now to see if he could get Bowrington Park. This will probably be done, as Mr. Michell. Innes has already discossed the desirability of utilising Wong-nei-chong meadows with repre sentatives of the Football, Golf, and Cricket Clubs, and, of course, he cannot overlook the claims of such an important body as this pro- mises to be. If the use of Bowrington Park is conceded to the Club it is contemplated to lay down a fine cinder-path, surrounding grass and asphalte tennis courts, and build a pavilion, all of which could easily be done for some $5000 no great sum to be subscribed. The popularity of the movement is assured, for, during the past quarter of a century, Annual sports have been prizes, three challenge cups, worth $650, were held, and at the recent meeting, among other IS GRANDEST TOUR ON LAND OR SEA offered. We shall watch the Club's career with great interest and confidence.

THE Chinese Customs Department is strengthen ing its forces on the Yunnan-Tonquin frontier. Three officers (English, Norwegian, and French) are now in Hongkong en route to Mountze. The officials already stationed there travelled to their posts overland. These officers, however, will go via Haiphong to Hanoi, and thence either by ateam-launch, junk, or pany, to their destination, They may be two months on their way. So irregular are means of communication between Hanoi and M untrẻ that the travellers may be any time between two weeks and two months in getting up river after landing at Hanoi.
