THE SHAHE MARKET,

At a meeting of the Directors of the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Cor- poration held yesterday afternoon it was decided to recommend a dividend of forty- shillings per share and place two lakhs of dollars to Resérve. It was further un' | animously agreed to increase the capital of the Bank by a new issue of shares, on conditions which have not been fully made public. The result of all this was quickly apparent in the Share Market this forenoon, when considerable cash business was done in Banks at from 197 to 200. The stock, however, weakened slightly late in the afternoon, shares finally offering at 199. Punjoms have been in good demand, a fair number of shares changing hands at 19, and there are further buyers. In other stocks nothing has been reported,

The British steamship Prometheus reports that she left Nagasaki on the 26th insant, Had fine weather throughout the passage.
The British steamship Taiyuan reports that she left Sydney on the 8th instant, Moreton Bay on the 10th, Townsville on the 13th, Cooktown on the 14th, Thursday Island on the 17th, and Port Darwin on the 'irst: Had ligh! variable winds throughout.
The British steamship Taichiow reports thaij she left Bangkok on the 23rd instant. Had fresh to moderate north and north-east winds and fine weather to the Paracels from the Paracels, to 'port had fresh to strong north and nerth-north- east gales with very high seas and dull gloomy weather..
The German steamship Amoy reports that the left Shanghai on the z'th instant, The first | part of the voyage had fresh north-westerly gale with hard squalls and dull cloudy weather to Namki; thence to Pyramid Feint had calms and light winds from the southward and soulli-castward; thence to port had moderate and fresh north-easterly and northerly winds with fine weather.
