In carrying out the works it shall be lawful for the Governor to deviate in respect of detalls to any extent that shall not materially alter or affect the general design set forth in such plans and drawings.
3. The works authorized by this Ordinance comprise the following, that is to say:
(a) The making of an embankment along the harbour front of the city of Victoria with all necessary and convenient walls, drains, wharves, piers, landing places, approaches and other conveniences and works; such embankment to commence westward at a point upon the sea-shore opposite the Gas Works, and to terminate eastward at a point opposite to Murray Pier; the said embank. ment to be constructed in whole or in greater part upon the bed or foreshore of the Barbour.

LONDON, February 5th. Major Le Caranya Fenian military organiser, deposed before the Times-Parnell Commission to-day, that Patrick Egan declared that Mr. Parn was a revolutionist to the backbone. Mr. Parnell desired to join the Fenian botherhood, but was not allowed to do so, as it was thought his connection with the Fenian organisation would destroy its usefulness. The witness also depased that Mr. Parnell, told him that nothing but the force of arms wouhl bring about the redemption of Ireland, and he did not see why an insurrection should not succeed it sufficient money and arms were forthcoming. The number of men and the amount of money requisite formed the suject of discussion,

BRISBANE, February 7th A discovery of gold in the bed of the Fitzroy River at Rockhampton is reported. Little is known regardin: the alleged discovery, but it is -stated that a vessel, while hauling us her anchor, brought up a wonderful prospect of alluvial gold. An application has been made for the reservation of an area in the river, but many people look upon the alleged discovery as a hoax.

NORDINARY GENERAL MEETING OTICE is hereby given that an EXTRA-
of the PUNJOM AND Sunghei DUA SAMANTAN Registered Office of the Company No. 9. Queen's MINING COMPANY, LIMITED, will be held at the Road. Central, Hongkong, on MONDAY, the 18th day of March, 1889, at 4 D'CLOCK IN THE AFTERNOON, when the subjoined Resolution, which was passed at the Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company held on the 15th of February instant, will be submitted for Con- firmation as a Special Resolution.
RESOLUTION,
That the Capital of the Company be increased to the sum of $600,000 legally current in the Colony of Hongkong by, the creation of 20,000 New Shares of $to each. Subject to any direction to the contrary that may be given by the Meeting sanctioning the increase of Capital, all New Shares shall be offered to the Members in proportion to existing Shares held by them, and such offer shall be made by notice specifying the number of Shares to which the Member is entitled and limiting a time within which the offer if not accepted will be deemed to be declined, and after the expiration of such time or on the receipt of an intimation from the Member to whom such notice is given that he declines to accept the Shares offered, such Shares shall be dealt with by the Directors in their discretion.
