It is hereby notified that henceforward the rates of postage which must be paid in advance, charge- able on Packets of printed papers or patterns of light weight sent from Hongkong to the United Kingdom by the United States' Packets via San Francisco, will be as follows, viz:-
These rates apply to Printed Circulars, Price Lists, Market Reports, and all printed papers other
than Newspapers, as well as to Books and Trade Patterns or Samples.

It is hereby notified that henceforward Printed papers and patterns posted in Hongkong or in any part of China or Japan, addressed to Alexandria, may be forwarded by the British Mail Packets for a Postage of six cents for a packet not exceeding four ounces in weight, with six cents additional for every four ounces in excess, which must be paid in advance.

The substance of this Notice, as soon as it is received on board, is to be inserted in red ink on the Charts affected by it; and introduced into the margin, or otherwise in the page, of the Sailing Directions to which it relates. See Instructions, Navigation and Pilotage, p. 172.
NOTICE TO MARINERS.
[No. 14.1 CHINA-YANG-TSZ-KIANG.
FIXED LIGHT ON GUTZLAFF ISLAND.
The Harbour master at Shanghai has given notice, that from the 1st day of November 1869, a light would be exhibited
from a lighthouse recently erected on Gutzlaff island, at the entrance of the Yang-tsz-kiang.
The light is a fixed white light, elevated 270 feet above the level of the sea, and in clear weather should be seen from 8
istance of 220 miles.
The illuminating apparatus is dioptric or by lenses, of the third order.
When it is desired to attract the attention of passing vessels, a gun or guns will be fired and signals made. During fogs, guns will be fired in answer to the fog signals of passing vessels.
