THIS DAY

Nooo, The principal feature in this morning's share business has been the renewed firm. ness of Banks. No actual transactions have been reported, butthe stock is in 'strong re- quest for cashat 190 per cent. premium, and on time at 195 for November and 198 for the end of the year. We fancy that some cash sales may be arranged during the day at 191. Hongkong Fires are still in request at 3524, and Docks could be placed at 57 per cent, premium. Sales of the Indo-China Steam Navigation scrip have been booked at the reduced rate of 25 per cent, dis- count, and sellers still rule the market. As the steamers of this Company are ad- mirably and most economically managed it would appear from the tone of the Share Market that our coast shipping trade has Jately been anything but a paying game. China Sugars continue their upward march; a few minor transactions have been recorded this morning at 141 for cash, and

and we heartily applaud the present resident genial chief of "the princely house" for the tact he has dis- played in dealing with what gave every promise of proving a somewhat difficult problem to solve. It gives us all the greater satisfaction to be able to say so much now, as we have felt it to be our duty on more occasions than one to write some rather severe criticisms on the policy pursued by Messrs. Jardine, Mathe-weather throughout. son & Co. in their management of the sugar industries of the colony. Nothing has been done in Luzons since we last wrote, and the quotation is merely a nom inal-öne. Other stocks remain quiescent.
