All the prisoners were placed in the dock ex-" cept Delaney. The sensation had scarcely sub. sided when fames Carey stepped into the witness box. The surprise among the prisoners was une bounded. Counsel for the prisoners objected to a-questionof Murphy, Queen's counsel, to Carey as infamous. Great excitement followed, the temark, which drew a sharp rebuke from the magistrate. Carey's appearance at the witness table created a profound sensation.
Carey deposed that all the prisoners except one were members of the organization, as was also Frank Byrne of London, whose wife brought them arms. He corroborated Kavanagh's testi- mony in every detail.
