Noon. Our surmise yesterday that Banka would be offered at a lower rate before the end of the month has already proved correct. This morning the stock is very weak with sellers for cash at 191 per cent. premium cum new Issue, and doubtless a lower figure than that would not be refused in several quarters. So far as we know there is no reason to justify this depression, except ing, of course, the usual time business Influences, which are always felt more ar less at the end of each month. Union Insurance stock has made a notable advance in public favor, business having been put through at 2,400 and 2500 per share, closing with buyers at the latter rate. Chinese Insurances, on the other hand, are on the dawnward line, sellers ruling the market, and the reduced rate of 215 per share failing to secure customers. Hongkong Fires have made a bit of a spurt since yesterday, being now in good demand at 1335 Unless we greatly err, n considerably higher price will have to be paid for this stock before many shares are forthcoming. Nothing fresh in Docks has transpired this morning. The excellent leiter on the Dock-Company's prospects which appeared in yesterday's Telegraph has been made the subject of a good deal of discussion to-day, the general opinion apparently being that the writer has hand- led his subject in a very practical manner. The scrip could be placed to a limited extent at 6 per cent. premium; but holders keep back for better terms. China Sugars are in renewed favor at 205, no shares being on offer at that rate. Luzons, on the other hand, are rather weaker, with sellers at 106. As the present position of this stock in the Share Market is, under all circumstances, one of the local financial Tencer, British steamer, for Singapore, &c. marvels of the age, a mystery which, with Yingtsze, British steamer, for Saigon. all the information-mt-our-disposal, wew-yuen, Chinese steamer, for Shanghai, are quite unable to comprehend, we have Hesperia, German steamer, for Saigon.
Hothou, British steamer, for Swatow, decided in the interests of the public Vorwneris, German steamer, for Touron, to send over to Manila in the course of a Ningpe, British steamer, for Shanghai. few days an expert, thoroughly acquainted | infoinette, British bark, for Saigon. with the business, to make independent | Awangtung, British steamer, for Swatow. inquires as the actual position of this concern. The fact that the shares of a Company, which has up to the present time proved a deplorable failure, are quoted at a substantial premium is so ex- traordinary and the whole history of the Luzon Sugar Refinery is so 'puzzling, that a capable investigation into its affairs and prospects, so far as the public have an interest, has become, to our way of thinking, an absolute necessity,

A considerable amount of share bust- ness has been arranged since the cir culation of our morning report. As we anticipated, Banks were forthcom- ing at a slightly lower rate, few shares changing hands for cash at 190, and closing rather weak. China
