THIS DAY.

Noon. A good deal of general business in shares has been put through this morning. Banks have improved their position in the market, and remain in request at advanced rates. Sales, both for cash and the end of the month, have been booked at 193 per cent. premium cum new issue, and a fair number of time transactions at 195 for April 30th have also been reported. China. Fires are hardly so firm as when we last wrote; transfers have been effected at

355, and doubtless further shares could be obtained at that quotation. Docks

could be placed at 57 per cent, prem-

uium for cash; however, holders stand out for better terms, and the market seems to indicate that a slightly higher rate will

soon be forthcoming. After a fair cash business at 165, Hotels remain in strong demand at the quotation. China Sugars arcagain on the downward line with sellers at 20. Luzons, on the other hand, are, strangely enough, in renewed favor. Shares have been negociated this morning at 106 for April, and we hear of cash bayers at the same rate. In the face of the report, published in another column, the market position of Luzon shares is, simply Incomprehensible. It is quite evident that somebody has something "up their sleeve" in reference to the past, present and future of this most, extraordinary of local enter- prises. We may see our way one of these days to supplement the report of the General Agents with a few interesting. facts and deductions.celating to the Luzon Sugar Refinery pro bone publico," "Indo- China S. N. scrip has been dabbled in to a limited extent at par, without, however, in any way affecting the market stain of the stock.

4 o'clock p.m.

Further sales in Banks at 193 cash, ami 195 for the end of April have been ar ranged since we last wrote, and the stock is in request at these rates. Hongkong Fires are quiet at 1325; a considerable re- duction on previous quotation. Cash sales of Docks at 57: have been reported, and there are still buyers at the price. China Sugars are freely offered at 203, without leading to business. A very large time business in Luzons has been booked at 111 and 112 for the end of July. For cash a raumber of shares are wanted et quotation. Other stock's need not be specially referred
