WE segreto observe in the interior papers a report of the death of Flotow, the well known composer, which occurred at Wiesbaden on the 25th ulto. Frederick Ferdinand Adolphus von Flotow was born at Tenterdorf, in Mecklenburg, Schwerin, on April 27th, 1812. Originally in- tended for the diplomatic service, his musical tastes induced him to go to Paris and place him. self under the tuition of the composer Reicha, During the revolution of 1830 he went back to Germany and while there he composed two or three operas, which were performed with success privately, but which obtained no recognition from managers. His music composed for Le Nau- frage de la Meduse' first brought him into pro- minence, and since then he has composed several works, of which Stradella and Martha are the best known. He was for many years Director of the Court Theatre at Schwerin.
We read that the late Pope, Fio Nono, after bis. return to Rome from Gaeta, determined to have his own steam yacht, to be kept in readiness should be find it necessary to again quit the Vatican at short notice. Accordingly a com- mission of officers was sent over to London to obtain the assistance of the British Admiralty, and under their guidance a' handsome strong -steam-yacht, the Immacolate-Concesione, about 500 tons, was built by Messrs. Mare and Co, for a speed of 12 knots. The vessel was equipped as a corvette of war, with eight large rifled brass guns, with a full equipment
