Commercial.

THIS DAY,

morn-

Noon. Affairs on the Stock Exchange are again rather quieter. A few transactions in various stocks have been reported, but no- thing of special importance. Banks, we think, may be safely described as having improved their position. Sales for cash at 138 per cent. premiant have been re- corded, and there are still buyers of the stock at this exceptionally high rate. No business" in Mario or Fire Insur- ances has been reported this ing. Docks are still offered at 54 per cent. premium for cash; but we have good reasons for believing that the supply at this rate is limited. However the stock does not at the moment appear in very great demand; probably owing to the rather dull time the Dock Company has been having lately. Steamboats have failed to maintain their position, and a fair number of shares have been negotiated at 7:30 per-share premium. At this rate there are still shares on the market. That most erratič of local stocks-Luzons, has been made the subject ofenquiry, and from 102 to 103 per share, cash, would be paid were any shares forthcoming; however, ‘as no actual business 'has resulted from these enquiries, they may possibly mean very little. The Ice Company's stock is in strong demand at 147 but as holders evidently antici- pale more favourable terms they decline to "sell at that figure
