HER BANDMANN's last action in this Colony was a noble one, worthy of many other exhibi. tions of greathess which will make the great tra- golian's name famous for all time in Hongkong, We have already recorded that he quietly ab- scanded without paying the salaries of his com- pany, or providing them with their passages to Australia as he was bound to do by agreement. But Herr Daniel Edward Bandwann did even a meaner trick than that. He engaged a number oftenlies to carry his baggage from the Hong- kong Hotel in the hoat which was to convey fim on board the mail steamer Khedive, delibe- ratly lied to Cluse coolies, and actually "cleared out without paying them the few cents he owed then for coolic hire. to.No unordained person shall on any oc- casion (either Sunday or week-day) officiate in the church, and the minister in residence shall be regarded as responsible for all that takes place therein, excepting only the circumstances men- doned in rules 8 and 9,
In our hue of the 9th December last we cri. licised at length the scheine of erecting a church and parsomge at the Peak, and we see no reason to alter the views we thien expressed. An ap peal had been made to the public for subscrip tions, and a subscription list was then lying at Messrs. Lane, Crawford & Co.'s. As the matter had been thus brought within the pale of public criticism, we deemed it our duty to express our views on the subject. We wrote upon that occasion:-
The proposed new church mid prenago at die Pesk, an ens blems of lary church gig ofanimals and modes Pham- senism, if they eveę becomin occurplished fact, will doubilens auswer their intended requirements Hat will this acheme, ap parently hatched and fostered by half a dozen professional church. goers to gratify a morbid craving aftr notoriety, and for their own personal convidence, And sufficiem favor with a praciscal public ja kuultića ikon: to furnish the necesʊny sinews of wae). The question can be draws into very Barrow Ensis. Government aff for the purpose of gratifying tha selfish alms of a feve narrow-minded sectarians, without in any way benefitting the general community, is too much of a joke to require serious consideration, sa va in comfortably scire that part of the "laudabia proposstion.” The public may wbscriber ta ilds project, on of respect to the pulutlý, character of the pros inters; buji wa doubt li mach to this posities ago. The whalant the churches la langkung ora nua si wall attesided that an adv ditions to their number la rendered either necessary or advisable. It is a matter ofsstaristy that the attendance at the Union Church, notwithstanding the great abilities as a preacher, and genes) fatty of die present pastor, is the reverse of cuisfactory. A church at the Gap would doubilen uke away the maturity oferen the present elect few. Befora ibacribing to a new church, chiren with bug panses and generous spitite, should drop in ni Elgin-rect any Sunday marleg, where the, nakedness of the land, so far as the necessity for the proposed innovation, will be fully expened.
We are not aware whether the local govern- ment has aided the scheme by a money grant in addit to the free grant of land mentioned, but if it has, we can only characterise it as a misap plication of the public funds. We presume as the military authorities have contributed to the erection of the church, that they do not intend to have a church of their own built in connection with the sanitarium at the Peak
with the board on 1
liberal footing The lessees had not treated
the board in a business-like manner, but had put thent off by saying there was plenty of time. The board had determined that they would not be placed in such a position as to be compelled at the last moment to go to the present lessees and accept their terms. This last sentiment was received with applause. As there was no other question to discuss, the Chairman proposed the adoption of the report and the passing of the
accounts.
Mr. Foss seconded the proposition, which was carried unanimously.
Mr. Vaucher proposed, and Mr. Taylor se. conled, that Messrs. Hughes and James, the reiting directors, be re-elected, which was put to the meeting and carried.
On the motion of Mr. Vaucher, seconded by Mr. Morgan, the election of Mr. McCulloch to the board, in place of Mr. Haswell, who has left the colony, was confirmed,
Mesars, Vaucher and Ameld were re-elected
nuditors.
Nothing further offering for discussion, the Chaiman informed the meeting that the dividend warrants were now ready and would be paid at the Hoogkong and Shanghai Bank on presenta- tion.
Mr. Morgan proposed a vote of thanks to the Chairman, and in doing so'spoke warmly on the report which had just been presented to them, saying that it was n most admirable one and that, the directors had done everything that was possible in the interests of the
shareholders. Mr. Morgan, continuing, said
You recollect at the last meeting we had, one of the old directors informed us that if we had a new board we would be landed in a sea of mire. Very well, gentlemen, 1 only trust next meeting you will land us in the same sea of mire. ··1 am
sure the shareholders will agree with me that both shoeless and stockingless they will be glad. to walk through that sea of mire. Mr. Morgan's speech, was received with applause.

Mr. Moore begs to recommend his
GOGO SHAMPOO WASH
to the public as unrivalled by any prepara tion ever produced for promoting the growth of the hair. The basis of this compound is made of soap root; the natives of the Philip pine Islands never use anything else for washing their hair; they are never found bald, and it is quite common to see the females with hair from 5 to 6 feet long. By constantly using this Shampoo Wash as directed, you will
NEVER BE BALD.
The proprietor offers the Wash to the public entirely confident that by its restorative pro- pertics it will without fail arrest decaying hair.
