following gentlemen acted as jurors; Messrs. D. A. Tratter, A. W. Baiu and R. 1. Fenton. The evidence went to prove that the deceased shot himself yesterday, in his cabin, at about one "felock. Attracted by the repart, Mr. Dixon a passenger, went to the cabin and found the un fermate man with a revolver in his hand, two shots having been fired into his mouth. He
was still alive but died in about five minutes. Dr. Ringer gave evidence of the post zierten and the discovery of one bullet lodged in the brain. A verdict of suicide in a state of temporary insanity was returned. It appears that the de. ceased was a panicularly quiet and sober man. He had been somewhat depressed in spirits of late, but his condition gave av cause for alarm." The body was buried in the Kulangsen Ceme- Lury this morning.

SOLDIERS' AND SAHORS' LETTERS. Privates in H.M. Amy or Navy. Non- commissioned, Officers, landmasters, Army Schoolmasters (not Superintending or First Class) Writers or Schoolmistresses may send half-ounce letters to the United Kingdon by mail at the rate of four cents (two-pence) cach, which may be prepaid either in Imperial or in Hongkong Stamps. By private steamer the postage is two cents (ame penny}.
2. The same privileges apply to letters ad- dressed to the Privates and Non-commissioned Officers named above.
3-Private steamers leave Hongkong for Lon don about every ten days.
4-The letters must not exceed half an ounce. No handkerchiefs, jewellery, &c, can be acnt, even with the ends open.
5.-If from a Soklier or Sailor his class and description must be stated in full on the letter, manding Officer, with name of regiment, ship, &c., the cover of which must be signed by the Com in full. If to a Soldier er Sailor, his class and description, with name of regiment, ship, &c, must be stated in full.

Many boxes of letters are received at the Post Office not sealed, that is to say, the box is fastened with scaling wax, but there is no impression of a seal.
The attention of boxholders is called to the ACCEsity of carefully sealing such boxes with some recognisable scal, and of sending a chi book or
or receipt with them. The omission of the latter precaution leaves a doubt as to whether the contents of the box ever reached the Post Office: the omission of the former, as to whether part of them might not have been abstracted for the sake of the Postage Stamps.
