Harcourt's uncompromising attinete, in the presence of the protests of some of the highest legal authorities on the Liberal benches, is said to have brought this divergence to a head.
The result of Saturday's Cabinet council, is therefore anxiously looked for, as it is understood that Sir Was. larcent intended to demand urgency for the Crime Prevention bill, which Chamberlain and Sir Charles Dilke would dp- pose, advocating, on the contrary, material can. cessions to the Irish members. The relations of the members of the Cabinet are becoming daily more and more strained, so that a break-up is among the immediate probabilities. reganied Chamberlain and Charles Dike are known to be contemplating resignation. Should they finally decide in taking this step, the days of Gladstone's Cabinet would be bereid. An appeal to the country would so change the con station of the flouse of Commons that a com-
bition of Radicals and Home Rulers would have any ministry at its mercy. Neither Cham Derlain or Sir Charles Dilke have ever spoken in support of the Crime Prevention bill.
