The French were proposing to send out 6,000 soldiers to Tanquin when the Tunis affair broke out; but they have done just as well without 5,600 of them, and they have tlone it very quietly, whilst the Chinese were paying little attention to their proceedings. The British Consel at New York is offering rewards for information which will lead to the discovery of the perpetrators.
A Times of India special London telegram says that Mr. Forster has been reinstated as Chief Secretary for Ireland.
The assassins are probably American Fenians.
