Commercial.

THIS DAY, FOUR P.M. Active business has at "length been re-

sumed in shares and stocks, and although the brokers have been chiefly engaged throughout the day in arranging settle-- ments, they have found time to negotiate a fair amount of transfers, Banks have been the chief medium for investment, a large number of shares having changed hands. at 111 per cent, premium for cash, leaving off steady, with liuyers at the rate, Good business has also been reported in the scrip of the Canton Insurance Company at po per share, an pulvance of five, on pre- vious quotation. Docks are steadily rising in public favor, important sales having been booked throughout the day at gi per cent. premium. The supply at this rate was quickly exhausted, and a strong de- mand still exists for the stock, which has a decidedly upward tendency. Other quo- tations remain unchanged, but after te- day's settlements general business will no doubt be resumed with increased activity.
