The Foreign Missionary Seminary Paris has received a telegram, dated Hongkong 8th inst., which reports that a terrible typhoou had just ravaged Western Tonquin. Two hundred tom- ples and thirty-four mission-bouses and collegas have been destroyed, with 2,000 houses inhabited by Christians. Six thansand Christians are stated to be ruined and without resources. The losses are immense, and the distroas terrible. The telegram concludes by an urgent appeal for the promptest help.

This makes the seventh factory for which the above-nated firm have sup- plied the entire plant. The machinery comprises all the latest improvements that have been introduced in the raapu- facture of gunpowder up the present time, and will be capable of producing 1,000 lbs. per diem. We understand that about half of this order will leave their works during the course of next month, and the remainder will be deli- vered in March, 1882. Messrs. J. and E. Hall are beginning to get as well known in China as they are in India, they having supplied the whole of the machinery for the Trientsin Arsenal, as well as that for the three Indian gunpowder factories.
