The Army and Navy Gazette says:— Some time ago.we called attention to occasional breaches of the China-station order against the use on board Her Majesty's ships of any but condensed water, except for washing purposes. We bad good reason then for pointing to such a breach as the cause of much sickness, and a proof of the advantages of adhering to the order is to be found in the case of the Modsate. During the whole of her four and a half years commission the issue of condensed was ter only, for the use of the crew, has been strictly carried, out, under the supervision of the Medical Officer, who has bad the satisfaction of seeing the result in a perfect freedom from dysen- tery, not a single case having accurred in the ship. The ships of the Comus olass are at present armed with 14 guns-viz., two 7-inch and twelve 64-pounder muzzle loading guns. This, is, however, an obsolete armament, and will be replaced by another as the ships undergo a refit. In the Canada, at Portsmouth, the latest ship of the type launched, prepa- rations are being made to provide ber with the new armament. This will consist of ten ton 6-inch breach- loading guns.
