THE GREAT END.

Some little excitement and amuse- mont has boon recently caused in scien- tifie circles by the predictions or pro- phecies of a certain 'Mr. Avetino, who has formally announced that this wick- ed world will cease to exist on tho 15th November next. We have not heard that any very extensive prepara. tions are boing maile by the different nations of the earth to be ready for the fatal day; however, as Mr. Ave. tino's prophecy is idontical to that uttered by the wise AoL somo hundred and fifty years ago, and has at least the merit of being ingenious wo traus Late his arguments and calculations from the Comercio, leaving our readers to form their own opinions on the

matter.

Tho following is the text of the pro- phocy which is written in French :-----

Sanglanta aurore boreals aux poles; lo soleil s'obscurcirá pendant tout un jour et cont lungs ensemble l'on verrà se com- battre, de qua ne pourra jamais cxpliquer aucun astrologne du monde.~Aol.

To comprehend the calculations it must be nuderstood that the letters of the alphabet are numbered as under :--

The present quotation may be fairly stated as $112 per share, and no doubt business will be done during the day at that rate. We woul again advise the Directors, if they have received a legitimate and satisfactory offer for the property, to close with itsept. without delay. The property swindle already shows signs of coming to grief, and then we may look out for squalls. Banks are steady at 110 per cent, pre- mium, and a few small cash sales at that figure were booked yesterday afternoon. Some business was also done in Docks at 42 and 41 for cash, but
