of New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A., through his duly authorised agent and attorney in fact, FRANK M. WILLIAMS. Witnessoth as follows:--

The said

on his part hereby promises and agrees, to emigrate to the State of Louisiana, U.S.A., to labor for the above-named JOHN WILLIAMS, his heirs, executors, administrators, or

assigns, under the following conditions, and for the considerations hereinafter named.

I.--The said.

agrees to work on Plantations, or do any other kind of labor that may be assigned to him by his employer, for the period of Five Years, beginning at the time he commences work ; for which he is to be paid by him at the rate of fifty (50) cents per day, United States Currency. half payable at the end of each month, the balance at the termination of this contract.

III.-His passage to the United States is to be advanced by his employer, but to be returned out of his first wages or earnings, together with any other advances made to him by said JOHN WILLIAMS.

IV.-In case of sickness he is to be furnished with necessary medicines without charge.

V.-He agrees to work from day-break till dark, with an intermission of one hour each for breakfast and dinner, except for the summer months, when he can take two hours for dinner. provided he is at work by sunrise, and provided further he take his breakfast before going out, and during the Sugar-making to stand watch at night, as usual on Sugar Plantations, but he is to be paid by his employers fifty (50) cents extra in currency for each night watch, but no labor is to be required of him on Sundays, except when necessary to secure the crop feeding the stock, and protecting the Plantation generally.

VI. He promises to render strict obedience to his Employer, and submit himself to the regulations of the Plantation, and in all things to conduct himself as a good and faithful servant.

VII-When he has worked Five Years, of three hundred and twelve (312) days each (lọss ten days for holidays), as he has agreed to do, and shall have performed his duties as a servant faithfully and diligently, obeying all orders strictly, his employer hereby obligates himself to send him back to China at his the said JOHN WILLIAMS' own expense, or in lieu thereof the said JOHN WILLIAMS or bis assigned or successor will pay him the sum of ($75) seventy-five dollars. It is understood and agreed that in calculating the period of service, a year is to be composed of three hundred and twelve (312) daya, full labor during the hours already mentioned, less ten days holidays as aforesaid.

VIII. He hereby agresa to serve the said JOHN WILLIAMS or such associates as the said JOHN

WILLIAMS may appoint during the term of Five Years under this contract.
