A reward had been offered by the Government, for information leading to the discovery and conviction of the perpetrators of this outrage, and Tam-Pak-Foo affected to be the man to turn Queen's Evidence and upon his testimony corroborated by that of other witnesses whom he was instrumental in procuring, the four Prisoners (although defended by Counsel) were found guilty and sentenced to death.
The Law was on their side regarding "Constructive Murder" none of the Prisoners having been proved to have been present when the mortal blow was struck but the Crime having been committed by one of the party in pursuance of a common intent to make a burglarious attack and to resist by force of arms any opposition by the Police to the execution of their felonious design.
