Such a body without being unwieldy represented all classes and contained in itself the elements for resolving all questions relating to Public expenditure, about which however no difference of opinion ever arose.

That Committee probably achieved more than any other body. In fact, of $19,000 given to the locality £2682-6-8 was for the completion of that Building, a permanent object affecting the Community generally, and which should not in fairness be mixed up with the temporary reception of His Royal Highness. The actual cost of that reception to the Public funds did not amount to $8,500. The principal expense was defrayed from private sources and amounted probably to a large total.
