Believing that the Health Officer of the Port, who is also Surgeon to the Seamen's Hospital, would know more about this matter than myself, I referred it to him, and now forward his reply. I have also made enquiry among Merchants and others, and believe that only in cases of ships from Matchama, ballasted with earth and gravel from the side of the hill, has much sickness shewn itself.
