I am informed by my Father the Chief Justice of Hong Kong that he has applied for five months' vacation leave for the purpose of visiting England.

and that his application is based on

The grounds and reasons fully set out in his letters

and that his application was at his request sent home by the mail before last for the consideration of His Lordship The Secretary of State for the Colonies and the Chief Justice has requested me

to ascertain whether such leave will be granted to him

May I request the favor of your informing me whether such leave will be granted to the Chief Justice or what decision His Lordship has come to on the subject
