THE ELECTRIC AND INTERNATIONAL TELEGRAPH COMPANY

NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC.

The Public are informed that, in order to provide against mistakes in the transmission of MESSAGES by the ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH, it is advisable that every Message of consequence should be REPEATED, by being sent back from the Station at which it is to be received to the Station from which it is originally sent, and that the Company will charge for so repeating a Message, at the Sender's request, half the usual price for transmitting the same Message.

The public are further informed that accuracy in the transmission of Messages along the Company's lines can be insured at the following rates in addition to what would be the usual charge for the like Message if it were repeated as aforesaid:

£ s. d. For any Sum up to £100 1 0 0 Above £100 to £200 2 0 0 £200 to £300 3 0 0 £300 to £400 4 0 0 £400 to £500 5 0 0 £500 to £600 6 0 0 £600 to £700 7 0 0 £700 to £800 8 0 0 £800 to £900 9 0 0 £900 to £1000 10 0 0 and 2s. 3d. for every £100, or fraction of £100, above that sum. A message in respect of which insurance is paid as aforesaid is hereinafter called an Insured Message.

CONDITIONS AS TO THE LIABILITY OF THE COMPANY.

The following are the conditions as to the liability of the Company, subject to which the Agreement is made between the Sender of the Message and the Company, and which are referred to on the other side of this paper as the endorsed conditions:

The Company will not be responsible for inaccuracy in the transmission of any Message along the Company's lines, unless the Message be an Insured Message, in which latter case the Company will be responsible to the extent only of the sum for which the Message is insured at the rate paid for such insurance.

The Company will not be responsible beyond the sum of £5 for the non-transmission, loss, or non-delivery, of any Message, whether the Message be insured or not.

The Company will not be responsible to any extent whatsoever for any delay in the transmission or delivery of any Message, whether the Message be insured or not.

The Company will not be responsible in any case for interruptions to the working of their Telegraphs.

Messages to be sent to any place beyond the extent of the Company's Lines or Stations, will be delivered by the Company's officers at their Terminal Station mentioned in the Request on the other side of this paper, to such persons as may have charge of the further means of conveyance; but the Company will in no case be responsible for the acts or defaults of other Companies, or persons not in their employ, nor for inaccuracy in transmission of the Message, nor for any other consequences whatsoever arising from such acts or defaults, whether the Message be insured or not.

Porterage, payable by the Sender of a Message, is charged, in ordinary cases, at the rate of 6d. per mile for foot delivery, and 1s. per mile for special delivery, no charge being made for delivery within half a mile.
