Leith M.B. 10th March 1869.
I beg leave to inform you that I have signed the usual agreement with the Crown Agents, 11⁄2 Spring Gardens; and that I shall proceed to Hong Kong by the Mail steamer, leaving Southampton on the 30th inst.
But in order that my preparations be fully completed, I find it necessary that a month's salary in advance be made to me; and I would be much obliged if you would be kind enough to grant the same, and remit it to my address here.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
Alexandre Falvener
The Bright Hon. W. Monsell, M.P.
