My Lord,
I am directed by the Standing Committee of the Anti-Slavery and Aborigines Protection Society to submit to your Lordship a memorial, which is annexed, extracted from the "Overland China Mail" of the 23rd February last, which was received by the last post from Hong Kong.
We respectfully request your Lordship to consider it in connection with paragraphs 16 and 17 of their Memorial presented in January. If the Report contained in this annexed extract be correct – and we are assured upon inquiry that there is no doubt of its correctness – then their worst apprehensions as to the fact of Mr. Daniel Caldwell being more in the confidence and employment of the Chinese Gamblers than their own are fully justified.
His connection with the Gambling Farmers (when this prosecution of Chinamen for murder is pending) – he acting on the Crown's behalf and the irregularities in the getting up of the case for prosecution so strongly felt –
