I transmit to you herewith copy of a letter from the Colonial Office with its enclosures in regard to the proceedings which have taken place at Hongkong in the case Regina versus Senhor Amaral, a former Governor of Macao.
The subject of the proceedings is an action for an alleged libel by the defendant.
I have consulted the Law Officers of the Crown upon this case, and the Portuguese Government are fully acquainted with the circumstances of the case from Sir C. Murray, K.C.B.
