Sir,

In reply to your Letter of the 12th instant I am directed by the Secretary of State to acquaint you, for the information of the Earl of Clarendon that:

(1) as Mr. A. Eimbcke resident in the Colony of Hongkong, the Governor has been instructed to report whether he is aware, or not, of any objection to his appointment as Consul for the North German Confederation at Hongkong; but if he is not aware of any such objection, he has been instructed to recognize Mr. Eimbcke provisionally in that capacity, until the arrival of the Exequatur.
