I have received from the Colonial Office Copies of the correspondence she has passed between Mer [Maconoul ?] Robertson & the governor of Hongkong respecting the flag used by the Chinese Customs.

You will see referring to the Papers relating to China 4.2.1864 laid before Parliament in 1864, that, on the 22nd of Oct: 1862, Prince Kung assured Sir F. Bruce that the national flag of China for the future would be a yellow triangular flag bearing a dragon on it now appears to be a three-cornered flag on yellow ground, whereas the Viceroy of Canton proposes that the fumboats should carry a square flag.
