Thornton had his pension increased, would have been entitled to 12/60ths but claimed 17/60ths of his salary of £400 a year viz - £113.6.8. or £75.11.14 a year.

The Government recommended, however, that he should only be granted 2/3rds of his full pension, which would be £75.11.14 a year.

Due to a request to be informed whether their Lordships are of the opinion that Mr Thornton should be granted 8/60ths of his salary of £400, or whether the fact that in Hong Kong, he was granted an allowance on account of the climate has been overlooked in the computation of his pension.
