Referring to my letter of the 26th April last, I transmit for Earl Granville's information copy of a letter from the War Office respecting the most suitable kind of small arm for the Hong Kong Police Force.
As Artillery Carbines are specially asked for by the Captain Superintendent of the Police Force in Hong Kong, the Crown Agents propose, with his Lordship's approval, to accept the War Office offer of 250 of those Carbines with sword bayonets and scabbards complete, provided they are breech-loading arms, which it is inferred they are.
