The Appointment to
which
Chief
I refer is that of Justice of the Colony of Ceylon.
I
I may
mention that
I am now temporarily discharging the functions of Chief Justice in this
Colony,
for a year
and that last
His Grace the
Duke of Buckingham was kind enough to offer me the appointment
of Chief Justice of British Guiana,
an honour which
to my great regret I was unable at that time
to
accept for reasons
which
no longer
exist.
Should a Vacancy
occur
in the meanwhile
in the office of Chief Justice of Hongkong, I
trust that
your
Lordship
will have the kindness to give a favourable consideration to such claims
as I
may
have to succeed
