This is a short Ordinance.
pressed to empower the Governor in Council to grant Licenses for the Distillation, rectifying and Compounding of spirits within the Colony.
The Distillation of spirits is absolutely prohibited by an early Ordinance of the Colony (8 of 1844) but application having been made on the subject to this Government by the Proprietor of a Sugar Refinery recently established in Hong Kong, the matter was enquired into and sufficient ground could be urged
