168 despatch N. 944 of the 9th July last and its enclosures, I think it expedient now to transmit to Your Lordship a full statement of the Colony's Account with that Fund, shewing the sum which I consider chargeable to it from the commencement to the present date, and also the estimate as likely to be taken from it with Your Lordship's sanction to the end of December next, leaving a probable balance of $146,083.30 due to that Fund.
I am sure Your Lordship will bear in mind that in the present state of the question, and whilst even the general principles applicable to the disposal of any part of that Fund are still under discussion, it is not possible to arrange the details that are novel and experimental, to deal suddenly with each of them in such a manner, however desirous I may be of doing so, as will exactly meet the views of another in a distant country, and vary with when there has been but limited communication on the subject.
