・dispersed with, and in consequence of which all the coin and notes on hand except bullion for removal to the Oriental Bank were transferred to the Oriental Bank this morning. The enclosed Circular Instructions to Heads of Departments will explain the mode in which all future receipts and payments are to be conducted through the Treasury by the Bank, which latter agrees to allow on the current account of the Colony 2 per cent.

9. I have also desired the Treasurer to establish himself in a room near the offices of his department instead of in the further most room from them in the large building called the Government offices. As yet, great as is the relief caused by dispensing with the Imperial Audit, and by paying with cheques instead of cash, as well as by the Bank receiving the greater part of the Revenue direct from the various Departments in lieu of its being all poured into the Treasury Vault, I have only dispensed with the services of one Shroff.

10. This economy tips the scale at less than £400 per annum. One clerk and one Shroff must however be carried further, and, if there was a Treasurer doing some effective work in the Treasury there is no chance of a much more considerable saving being effected. I do not however anticipate
