persons, who were seeking for

workmen,

both at Macao and the anchorage of Sin-chmoon (just north of it) when we were to embark. An agreement was made at the time, between the two parties, with particulars in full,

they still appear to examination; but who would ever have supposed that it would be thus perverted and altered? Within the past twenty years, not less than several myriad of men have successively

come

to this part, who have

requested employment

and have been

settled and

when they laboured

and under protection,

engaged in pasturing - feeding horses; they have gone

as directed, and in other

tilling land, and digging wells,

they have obeyed their employers' orders.
