My dear Sir,
I have just received Your Excellency's letter in reference to the temporary vacancy in the office of Chief Justice of the Supreme Court occasioned by the departure of Mr Smale and I beg to thank you for the very kind and gratifying terms in which you convey to me the offer of the temporary appointment.
