It appears that a convict had escaped and was subsequently recaptured on the 24th Instant. On the 25th, I had him brought before me at Government House, in the presence of Mr. Deane, Inspector Daly, the Portuguese Consul, and the Superintendent of the Macao Police. I instituted an inquiry into the case, and having clearly satisfied myself that the prisoner had been regularly convicted at Macao of murder, and that there was no doubt as to his identity - a fact not disputed by the prisoner himself - I directed him to be given over to the Macao Authorities, and he was conveyed to Macao the same day.
