of them amounts to £500 per annum, so that with the loss of these and his general practice as well as from the Summary Court he would probably be unable to hold the Acting appointment without incurring a loss of from £1200 to £1500 per annum.
Nor is this the only difficulty which meets me, for as the Office of Attorney General carries with it a seat in the Executive and Legislative Councils, I find a very great embarrassment of choice at present for that reason alone, though my embarrassment is of a nature very different from that which Mr Smale suggested to Your Lordship as my only difficulty.
8. Your Lordship will easily understand that, if I felt it necessary to forward at all the correspondence connected with Mr Smale's leave, I could not do so without likewise showing the inapplicability of his remarks on the special facilities existing here for the duties of the two local judges when absent at the same time. Otherwise it would have seemed strange that I did not at once report the arrangements made for that purpose.
