I acknowledge to have received, on account of an advance from the Colonial Treasury, by the order of His Excellency the Governor, the sum of Three Hundred pounds, ($300), which I undertake to repay from my first year's salary as Surveyor General of Hong Kong by monthly instalments; and to assign to you, as security, a Policy of Assurance on my Life, Policy No. 13,010, in the Guardian Life Assurance Company.
