allowance of Artillery Ammunition on the Parade Ground nearly in the centre of the City, and close to the most frequented and busy neighborhood. They protest against firing for Reviews or special occasions, although the position of that ground and also the formation of the hello in the photographs inflicting them. When however, no such excuse appears, and when the firing of the great gun in the middle of the town is only justified, as lately, by the plea of the Artillery Regulations requiring a certain number of rounds to be fired by each man before his drill can be regarded as complete, it does not seem unnatural that the City should render the firing of heavy guns in such a place a far more serious inconvenience and even danger than in other towns with which I am acquainted.

It is well understood, however, that inconveniences of such a nature ought to be cheerfully submitted to, whenever the occasion gives some semblance of reasonable excuse for firing the allotted number of rounds in the same place, whose selection should show greater deference to the wishes and convenience of the inhabitants.
