The rate fixed by the Admiralty to whose regulation on the subject the Duke of Buckingham refers with approval.
The amount of the valuation paid to me on the 3rd of May, on cause appearing at the proper time in the Supplementary Estimates. Whatever interest, therefore, is payable will run from that date, and I shall be glad to learn from Your Lordship the rate which you decide to fix, and also at what intervals, whether Monthly or Quarterly, payments should be made.
I apply for this information because I presume that, in establishing the new settlement, uniformity of arrangements, where attainable, will be considered desirable in the different Colonies.
I have to remark, however, that, as yet partly from inadvertence and partly from pressure of business, I have taken steps to procure public furniture in the Kitchens to provide a small supply of Table furniture, plate, and linen suitable for the Governor and a small party on first arrival. I have the honour to be, My Lord's most obedient humble servant,
Rules Fraser MacDonnell
Governor
