Your official letter together with the original Depositions in the case for Trial at the Sessions
commencing only reached me at 5 past 5.
The course you have taken at the last moment leaves me no alternative but to place my resignation of the Acting judgeship of the Court of Summary Jurisdiction in the hands of the Government. The appointment offered to me in a way all the more gratifying that I had made no application for it, although at one time I had thought of doing so having understood from you that as far as you were concerned you would not create any difficulties.
My object in writing this private letter is to inform you that there is a case which ought to be heard to-morrow as the Prosecutrix
